Benjamin Joslin Family History

Rev. L. D. Caleb H. N. Rooker, son of James & Mary Rooker was born on 8 December 1796 in Walsall, Staffordshire, England and died after 1870 in Bonham, Fannin County TX.  Caleb married Diana Joslin, daughter of Col. Benjamin J Joslin and Mary Gatewood on 15 May 1818 in Dickson County TN.  Dinah was born on 26 January 1801 in Davidson County TN and died on 19 June 1854 in Dickson County TN.  She was buried in the Jackson Chapel Cemetery.

Dinah's death was reported in the Genealogical Abstracts from Reported Deaths the Louisville and Nashville Christian Advocate and  The Nashville Christian Advocate 1852-1856. (September 7, 1854:  Diana Rooker d/o Col. Benjamin Joslin, born Davidson Co., Tenn., Jan. 26, 1801; md Caleb Rucker, May 21, 1818; died Dickson Co., Tenn., June 19, 1854.

NOTE:  Dickson Circuit:  1849-1850, Dickson County TN.  A book containing the names of the members in the Church at different Societies on the Dickson Circuit Tennessee Conference for the conference years 1849 and 1850 showed the congregation at Pleasant Hill contained Caleb & Dianna, James & Alsey Rooker.  Other members included Mary E. Jackson and James W. and Lavina Christian.

Caleb and Dinah had the following children:

1.  Mary Euphenia Rooker was born on 15 July 1819 in Davidson County TN and died on 13 December 1868 in Dickson County TN at the age of 49.    Mary maried the Rev. Judge Willis Jackson Sr (son of Willis Jackson and Mary Elizabeth "Polly" Trotter) on 5 June 1838 in Dickson County TN.  Judge Jackson was born on 30 January 1812 in TN and died on 25 January 1888 in Dickson County TN at the age of 75.  Both are buried at the Jackson Chapel Cemetery in Dickson County TN.

NOTE:  Death. As reported in the Nashville Christian Advocate April 14, 1888.  "Rev. JUDGE JACKSON born Jan. 30, 1812; married (1) Mary Rooker (died Dec. 13, 1868); (2) Emily J. Mitchell, Mar. 27, 1870; licensed to preach in Methodist Church Sept. 8, 1870; died Jan. 25, 1888; for many years a Methodist preacher.

2.  Elizabeth Anne Rooker was born in 1823.  Elizabeth married James M. Hunter on 16 Mar 1841 in Dickson County TN.

3.  James B. Rooker was born in 1825.  James married Jane Alsey Williams (b. abt 1827) on 15 December 1847 in Dickson County TN by William B Ross, J.P.

4.  John Wesley Rooker was born on 7 July 1836 in Dickson County TN and died on 18 November 1913 in Gallatin, Sumner County TN at the age of 77 and was buried in the Gallatin Cemetery, Sect. A-6.


5.  Rebecca P. Rooker was born 1839.  Rebecca married Harvey Page on 22 Oct 1860 in Dickson County TN.

6.  Amanda Diana Rooker was born 16 March 1843 in Dickson County TN and died on 7 February 1899 in Conway, Faulkner County Arkansas at the age of 55.  She married George Wesley Southerland (b. 5 Aug 1834 - d. 11 July 1919 in Conway, Faulkner County Arkansas at the age of 84) on 4 December 1860 in Dickson County TN.  They are both buried in the Old Liberty Cemetery in Conway, Faulkner County, Arkansas.


After Diana (Dinah) died in 1854, Caleb married Vienna T. Walker on 16 December 1856 in Dickson County TN.  The 1860 Census showed Caleb and Vienna in Bonham TX (page 187a, dwelling #220, family #222).  Caleb was 61 and Vienna was 31 at the time.  They also had a one month old female child at the time of the census.  The 1860 Slave Census Schedule showed Caleb owning one (1) slave at this time.

Caleb and Vienna had the following children:

1.  female child born in 1860 in TX per the 1860 census listing the child as 1/12 yrs old.

2.  Jefferson D (1861)

3.  Henry B (1864)

4.  Virginia (1868)

5.  Thomas (1869)

in either Jan or Feb 1870, Caleb is mentioned as being a "Local Elder of the Methodist Episcopal Church South" and marrying Reuben W. Wyatt and Sarah E Weaver (or Weever).
